John S. Blum is President and a founding principle of Kramer, Blum and Associates Inc. He began his career with the Heart Association as the Executive Director of the San Mateo chapter, and later served as Assistant Director for Development and Research Programs of the California affiliate. John is an innovator in providing management consulting to nonprofit organizations and philanthropic foundations, and has extensive experience in finance, strategic planning, governance and board development. He has a B.A. from Brown University and an M.S.W. from University of California, Berkeley. John lives in San Francisco with his wife Kathy, and enjoys spending time with his eight grandchildren.
Kenneth J. Blum is Senior Vice President of Kramer, Blum and Associates Inc. He has extensive experience working with families, entrepreneurs and individuals launching and managing foundations, evaluating funding initiatives, facilitating board meetings and collaborating with investment professionals on foundation asset allocation. Ken has worked in Washington, DC and Maine on workforce, education reform and welfare initiatives, and has deep experience assessing the feasibility of small business plans and counseling nonprofit organizations to develop for-profit ventures. Ken has a B.A. from Lewis and Clark College, and attended the Georgetown University School of Public Policy. He lives in Marin County with his wife Sara and their three sons.
Sara Schwartz, Ph.D., is Vice President of Research and Evaluation of Kramer, Blum and Associates, Inc. Sara has extensive experience conducting evaluations with public and private organizations and foundations. In addition, she an adjunct professor at the University of Southern California, School of Social Work, where she teaches research and evaluation to graduate students. Prior to joining Kramer, Blum and Associates, Sara was the founding research director of the Mack Center on Nonprofit Management at the University of California, Berkeley. She earned a Ph.D. in Social Work Research from Portland State University and a MSW from Virginia Commonwealth University. Her expertise, understanding and sensitivity of research, evaluation and nonprofit management strongly complement the services that Kramer, Blum has provided our clients since 1963.
